What we think of it...

Have to say I wasn't so sure about this album when I first heard it: Tsuyoshi is perhaps
THE best DJ, but his music often seems, well, just a little bit too spacey. This album
includes a number of old favourites (like "Scarab") as well as some new choons. And it gets
better as you hear it more. If at first you don't like, try it again.

                                         Jason C

First off, beautiful cover, but what ever happened to the indian-esque artwork? This stuff is
starting to look more and more Pink Floyd/Gong/Hawkwind-like? Anyway, they might also
want to rethink their catalog #, as MP has been taken by Mille Plateaux...on the other end
     of underground music.

A good selection from the Prana crew, but half the album shines brightly for "psychedelic
trance", the other is mindless trance doodling. I don't like that. 'miko' is a good starter for
some eastern europe type trance, 'kiba' has some excellent dubby sounds that are
intricate and easy to mix with, and chugs along at a good pace, it's just that it doesn't jump
out to excite you in a way that 'lets turn on' did on the Yellow Compilation.

'Scarab' has the famous didgeridoo sound running through it, and the bassline is a blatant
ripoff of Doof's "we are free" track on RTTS. Saddening. But, this track gets the thumbs up
for me as being in a pigeonholing genre of "esoteric indian techno". Quite tribal. 'Future
Space Travellers' could have benefitted from being called something else, but otherwise is
very good, swirling keyboards, and has a crunchy analog sound at the end. It's good on the
ears. 'The Earth' is the best of the entire album.

Tribal rhythms, "esoterik indian techno" vibes, and simply smashing. It has an energetic
middle and end. Tops! Finally, 'taiyo' is yet another midpaced trancer, a bit overly familiar in
the trance formula, but still makes it onto Volume Two of my "psychedelic trance" mixtape.

                                       Derek Jordan

Very Poor indeed. I`m not a big fan of Prana and this album hasn`t done anything to
change my opinion. `Scarab' is definetly there best track IMHO. The only other track that
comes close is `The Earth'. The rest of the tracks are just a full of ridiculous samples which
totally screw up them up. My advice is to stay well clear of this album. 5/10

                               SHAQ - ska93sa@soton.ac.uk

     "Taiyo", I like.
     "The Earth", I nearly like.
The rest is SHIT - AVOID!!

                              colin_johnson@globalvillage.co.uk

I have to disagree with the rest of you, this album is my number one favourite for the
moment. REALLY good, progressive goa. 9/10

                                          Fredrik

a nice listening album. The Earth with Indoor is good. Kiba is good. Taiyo (a track from
1993), still kicks ass. Worth buying, especially if you don't have Taiyo.

                                          michael

This album has got some 'nice' tunes, but they never stick in my head, and thus I hardly
ever mix 'em in, so it can't really be that good! Future Space Travellers always seems to be
running round my head so that must be cool! ;-)

                                  RiCH (ree2@ukc.ac.uk)

I was really disappointed ... Tsuyoshi can do better!!

                              cbauckha.techfak.uni-bielefeld.de

I don't know. I've been trying to find a copy of Cyclone but everywhere I try they've never
     heard of it!

                              Alistair Smith - axs@crosfield.co.uk

You can have mine if you want. Hey that's a good idea Jason. How about a "This SUCKS
Exchange". If u have a CD which u think really SUCKS, exchange it with someone who
wants it. Top of my list is Cyclone, Moment of Truth and Ordo Odonata 2. Any takers? Mail
     me.

                             colin_johnson@global_village.co.uk

I haven't listened to the album, but the copy I saw at the Cisco Techno shop in Tokyo had a
Fiesta remix on it (!) which was one of my favorite tracks of concept in dance 2. Does
antbody esle know about this remix, and if so is it worth it? The only reason I didn't get the
album is because I didnt have the 3000 yen to get it after TIP Blue, Astral Projection and
Transient, but it doesn't sound as if it was worth it. Still, a Fiesta remix! Sounds exciting to
     me.

                               Stephan(ralescu@bucknell.edu)

Something really wonderful happened to me a couple of days ago. I never listened to this
album, maybe for several months, but now I decided to give it one more try.. Unbelievable! I
listened to it once, twice.. played some tracks over and over again..

I must admit that this is probably one of my best records..

     Miko - Nice and slow
Kiba - More aggressive, but also soft..
Indigo (remix) - I really love this track! One of the few tracks with a poppy part that I really
     like!
Scarab - Really good, but i“ve heard it too much
Message for Eastedge - I had this track on a mixtape once, but couldn“t figure out where it
came from .. now i know :) Outstanding!
Starchild - Some parts are really good, some parts are a little bit boring ..
Moretsu - More psychedelic, strange track
Future Space Travellers - IMO the Prana + Athena remix is better.. but still good
The Earth - I loved this some months ago ... now I don“t really get into it ..
Taiyo - I“m a big fan of Prana“s strange breaks, some of them are of the type that can
make you break a foot when dancing.. mmm...

8 good tracks out of 10 .. i'm not complaining!

                                   hriech@194.18.44.33

Very interesting Goa Trance but it does take a few times to really get into it.

                                           Anon

I don't what all of you negative people are thinking with... Sure Tsuyoshi could manage to
come up with something even MORE, but this is definitely enough. Especially "Scarab" is
wonderful, I like that fluid sound in the middle of it which summons a feeling of flowing
water inside my head. Try it in your earphones and get *flipped*!! Prānā is still one of my
favourite names in the goa-scene, and I'm looking forward to new single or something like
     that.

                             dan.meurling@mbox300.swipnet.se

the best track is indigo, future space travelers and the rest of the album is also great

i think it's great.. prana is kicking ass

                                          raider

regardless of the reviews that prana-cyclone got, i went out to cisco techno and picked it
up. excellent cd. you people should stop putting your faith in how good the cover looks and
take the music as is. a verying collection of tunes with a slightly monotonous bass groove in
most of them. the tracks range in flavor from austrALIEN tribal, to japanese mountain
flutes, to a garden filled with crickets and birds. almost as eclectic as total eclipse

                                 davisja@emh.yokota.af.mil

My opinion...To date Prana would have to be the group advancing this style to it's next
reincarnation, or evolution if you like. I am quite amazed at some of the other reviews,
spose one man's milk is another's poison! Keep it coming Nick, Tsuyoshi & Co.....Magical!

                                  tim@hba.trumpet.com.au

My opinion...'Ther Earth'-I don't see why this track isn't considered one of the best at the
moment since after about 3 and a half minutes, it just explodes in to a furying frenzy, and
when it is played at an earshattering level, nothing in the wolrd can make you move
     faster...and that's a motherfuckin' fact....thanks to all those who dig prana..kick ass
     Tsuyoshi!!!!

The intro track and "Scarab" are excellent, but the rest is merely good. A couple of the
trakcs sound a bit too "tinkly" and dated, other than that this is a good cd.

glad I bought this one couple of years ago.

It“s good all right, but something“s missing. All the sounds are kinda like too close and you
just don“t have that great atmosphere in this album. The synths are quite trancey and with
shrieking and ill sounds, but nice melodies are found too, like on the third track, which I
liked best. All the tracks are quite alike but never boring, perhaps just a bit too predictable.

I think this is a very good album, but with hindsight I can say that I like Geomantik more. All
the tracks are good by themselves, some awesome, such as Indigo, Message for
Eastedge and Taiyo. The problem is that they all sound quite a bit like each other and after
listening to the album for a while I just become numb to it and it fades to the background. I
rather listen to a few tracks at a time and that way this album rocks! BTW: I have black rain
on vinyl (single). It was released by POF in 1996 and has the original on one side and a
Blue Planet Corporation remix on the other.

What we think of it...

     Sat Mar 29 01:16:29 GMT 1997
Techno anyone? Yes we all tried to evolve a bit from techno and develop our taste within
the world of trance when suddenly Prana made a 180 degree turn on us and made a
psychedelic techno like album. Quite honestly dissapointing. His first one, Cyclone, is just
one of those that doesnt age and still sounds absolutely wonderful, full of energy,
captivating melodies, trully tweaked sounds, and over all very very well compiled. This one
on the other hand is not trance and it is not goa. If you listen to it, it just doesnt captivate
you. There is some neat sounds here and there, but nothing strong enough to capture the
mind and pull it out onto the road of imagination. As a Techno album this is wonderful. As a
trance, let alone goa, this falls quite short. That is why I do not recommend, unless you
wish to hear some acidy techno. AntiMatter

projection's new one. a rehash of some of the same songs in their first album. the first
review of this album was harsh in the extreme (although i am partial to tsuyoshi). geomantik
takes turns in the rigid style that many goa cd's are turning into now

Some of the trax are very nice, but there is one thing that really keeps me from listening to

It really goes up and down. Some tracks are really worth getting this LP for, some are not
at all. The positive points for me were: 'Geomantik' - wonderful, maybe a little bit repetive
sometimes. The Green Nuns remix lacked everything except a 303, it impresses at a first
glance, but it leaves you unchanged. Almost every other tracks has already been released,
and therefor didn't impress me at all. Maybe Kiba is worth a second listen.

I guess its the second best psy trance album ever released, in my opinion, after Total
Eclipses's "Violent Relaxation". The tracks are more energetic, and pulsating than the
former album Cyclone, and it's very innovative. The first track, simply kicks ass, one of the
best tracks i've ever heard actually, and with a very original sound. Kind of morning music,
with interesting beats, and wierd noices. Unfortunately there are only 4 new tracks, the
other 5 is only remixes. However, the remixes sound very far from the originals anyway, so
thats ok with me. The new tracks on the album are the best though. BUY IT

fm3 is far too busy trying to pigeon-hole what particular music style this album belongs to...
To me it's certainly psychedelic (which is the important part :) and it's both trance and
"techno" (which doesn't matter at all!). This album has grown a lot on me since I first heard
it - actually it is still getting better and better. The remixes are quite good and different from
the original versions. The new(er) tracks like 'Boundless' and 'Primal Orbit' are also of high
quality, especially 'Boundless' with it's intricate, advanced percussion and ecstatic synth
riffs! Nick Taylor's remix of 'Scarab' is OUTSTANDING and Total Eclipse's remix of
'Starchild' is a deep and progressive affair that really moves me. This album is not, as
Davisja suggests, as disappointing as the Astral Projection: The Astral Files album...

Frank, why is it that I always find your opinion to be right on?? This really is a very good
album even though I've heard relatively little positive things said about it. True, it is "mostly
remixes" but they sound so different from the original that you can easily disregard that. If
you had trouble getting the Boundless 12" then it's also available here, which is really nice,
along with the really killer dark-n-scary Chakra track (hard just the way I like it), and that
really incredibly, psychedelic Green Nuns remix, which is just insane. This stuff is hard, dark,
and mental. If you want catchy, popy, fluffy trance, look elsewhere. oh! the other really nice
thing is (if I remember correctly) that this is pressed on 4x12"!! So you get 4 records for
$20! Worth it? In my opinion, if you don't have this already you're missing something in your
     collection.

The best song on the album is by Chakra. Great remix of Taiyo. Love the monkeys!! Green
Nuns remix is good also, but it brings you to a high early and doesn't get any better! They
are still great though and wish they would come out with an album already!! Only new song
from the master that really took to me was Alien Pets. Tsuyoshi needs to limit the remixes
on his next release and come out with more of his own masterpieces! It's not as good as
Cyclone, but Prana is a 'must have' in my collection!! He's too good to pass up. So buy it!!

good album, but as a whole it leaves you feeling hyped up, when really you just want to be
left feeling mellow, and there are toooooo many remixes, Louis.

I have never heard to "Cyclone" this far but one thing is clear : except The Green Nuns'
remix, all the remixes are big shit (boring and without any interest). Too bad that only 3
tracks are really from Prana... but these ones : FANTASTIC. 3 among the bests tracks you
will ever hear to ! Prana is really an idol, I'm ok with that !

Well... it is very far from "Cyclone"...but nevertheless it is truly psychedelic!! Alien Pets is the
best "new" track...Starchild is wonderful!!!and I must say that the green nuns remix is ten
times better than the snake-thing remix... Not as uplifting as Cyclone but well worth the
     money!!

"Alien pets" is the best of the new tracks and the green nuns remix of scarab is
mindblowing, extremely psycho. The rest of the album is alright but nothing spectacular.

Too many remixes and few new tracks, but "Alien Pets"(a Prana classic)and
"Boundless"(one of the best psy-techno tunes I've heard)are really awesome. Track 1 is
good home listening music and sounds really Eat Static(no wonder after you read the
     credits).

I agree that it is a step back for Prana. Everyone knows Tsyoshi is a genius, so we expect a
little more. Although track one is excellent, as is track four. The inside cover looks great
     (especially when artificially enhanced).

I can't say anything else than I love this album. There are a lot of melodies of sounds, but
they are all well thought out and as a whole it has a very clear atmosphere and the
confusion that often results from a multitude of sounds is avoided (though the confusion is
nice sometimes). I haven't heard anything else from Prana unforunately, but this kicks ass.
