Kid Rock was born January 17, 1971,
as Robert James Ritchie and was raised in Romeo,
Michigan (40 miles north of Detroit). Kid Rock's
journey to musical fame started off with break
dancing - eventually leading to interests in rap
music more than rock music. His record company
sums it up best: "Bolstered by the hard
rhythms and guitar slam of his Twisted Brown
Trucker band, Kid Rock kicks his lascivious and
loquacious lyrical jams over an innovative blend
of classic-styled breakbeats and liquored-up Lynyrd
Skynyrd rock 'n' roll."

Kid Rock signed
with Jive Records after recording some
demos and working with Boogie Down
Productions. He released his first LP, Grits Sandwiches For
Breakfast and opened for Ice
Cube and Too Short
on tour. His track "Yodeling In The
Valley" resulted in college radio
station receiving the largest FCC fine
for playing the song. Jive Records later
dropped Kid Rock.
