   Trickshot (Melody Maker)

   Wall of Sound's main man,
   Derek Dahlarge, is behind
   tough but melodic hip hop
   based instrumental that begins
dark and moody but swings into
a different kind of action through
some tasty bits of sampling. Its
ruff cut beats and a gratuitously
   sleazy intro courtesy of Pacino
as a smack hustler help to
make it larger than a large thing
in a very large room, blah blah
   blah.

   Trickshot (Mixmag)

   'Trickshot' plays a mean hand
   in the chunky funky breakbeat
   department, dealing choice
   samples and an Al Pacino
vocal break . 'She Don't lie is a
   luscious jazz cooler
   accompanied by the haunting
   'Ghost Train'. Aces all round!

   Ceasefire Vs The Deadly
   Avenger

   Evil Knievel (Record
   Mirror/Music Week)

   As energetic as the title
   suggests; Derek Dahlarge
   returns with a daredevil deluge
   of charged beats, scratch
   punctuation, drops and an
   "Everybody make some noise"
sample which all seem to make
this sound like the theme to a
   Seventies action TV series.
   'Caipirinha' on the B-side
however, is less frantic with its
   stitched collage of breaks.

   Ceasefire Vs The Deadly
   Avenger

   Evil Knievel (NME)

   Worthy of note, not least
   because it marks Derek
   Dahlarge's - aka Ceasefire -
first vinyl offering in over three
   years, but also because
   feverishly - tipped
   Leicestershire newcomer
   Deadly Avenger actually
   managed to track down the
   notoriously itchy-footed
   Dahlarge. When last heard of,
the big man was down Ibiza
   way, claiming to have been
   kidnapped. Christ only knows
how many crates of ale and
whatever else it took to lure him
   back. Anyway, the collaboration
   is a snazzy, superfly booze-up
   worthy of the accident-prone
'70s motorbike stunt icon - the
Knievel of the title - who it's
   dedicated to.

   Ceasefire Vs The Deadly
   Avenger

   Evil Knievel (Bassline)

   Derek Dahlarge our home
   grown Coleraine man is back
   with another production
   masterpiece; his first slice of
   studio orientated work since the
   classic 'Trickshot' of three
years ago (still in my box).
   Teaming up with Deadly
Avenger is set to take Derek to
   the next level. 'Evel Knievel'
   corrupts those old school ragga
   vocals, chops those fat beats,
   drops deep killer guitar stabs'n
   high pitched rolling rhythms
   giving you that unmistakable
tingle down the back of your
   spine. 'Caipirinha' slings its
   house / carnival style with
   bongo and vocal breakdowns.
This is my cocaine, this is what I
   crave, pure breakbeat
   adrenaline you simply must
snap a copy up NOW this will
   not disappoint.

   11/10

   Ceasefire Vs The Deadly
   Avenger

   Evil Knievel (Muzik) (Vital
   release)

Unlikely as it may at first
   appear, Derek Dahlarge's
   talents extend beyond being
naughty and Djing - at least his
   collaboration with the unfairly
   gifted Deadly Avenger
   suggests so. This is sleek,
   choppy, crowd-friendly funk and
   a track which cunningly avoids
   many of the lumpen cliches
   currently plagueing the scene.
   Given Dahlarge's work rate it's
likely to be his last for some
   time,so go seek.
