What we think of it...
The long-waited second album from AP is finally
here. After the stir caused by the first I
was expecting absolutely amazing things from
this. To some degree the singular appeal of
AP's music has become devalued by the recent
ubiquity of the 'classic Israeli' sound. Still,
Lior and Avi are still master musicians and
melodies like the title track are guaranteed to
raise the spirits wherever you are. In any
state.
This is rather more varied than the previous
album, quite a mixture of styles. There are
some full-on dancefloor stompers in the forms
of "Dancing Galaxy" or "No One Ever
Dreams", with slightly stranger moments too,
viz "Flying into a Star". "Cosmic Ascension",
almost sounds like it was written for the
414. AP are experts too at fusing ethereal
moments with the full-on Israeli drive - ideal
for that homebound headspace. Check out
"Liquid Sun" (which seems teasingly reminiscent
of the classic "Utopia"). The final track is a
very nice semi-ambient mix of Dancing Galaxy,
which winds down nicely.
This album is a good demonstrator of the maturity
in both AP's music and the Israeli trance
scene. It's not a rave, even a psychedelic
rave, any longer.
