The historical predecessor of Fine Arts School were sunday drawing classes of Nizhny Novgorod art-lovers association opened in the beginningn of XX century.The school never stopped being, even during World and Civil Wars.

Children enter this school at the age of 11 or 12 and study there for 4-5 years.Main subjects are drawing, painting, composition, fine arts history. There is a sculpture department in the school. Studies are based on drawing of still lives and plaster ornamental patterns.It is not easy to master water-colour, gouache, clay and plasticine techniques, but year by year pupils grow on skill of form modelling, exactness of colour vision, composition, get expressiveness and figurativeness.
Teachers often work side by side with pupils. They generously share their knowledge with children. 
Vladimir Lebedev is a professional graphic painter, a member of Russian Painters' Assosiation. Landscapes and still lives of his pupils are remarkable for their artistry and special expressiveness.
Ksenia Schelokova work in the school for many years. Works made by her studentes are notable for their accurate and strict paintings, rich colour spectrum. K.Schelokova combines teaching with participation in various art exibitions.
Children's paintings made by studentes of Vera Bochkova win over through their kindness and sincere world admiration.She treats personalities with care and respect that helps her to let out creative rudiments in every young painter.
Valentina Andreeva graduated from artistic faculty of Cinematography Institute. Bright coloures, variety of subjects and personality of works made by her students meet with deserved recognition on exibitions of children's creative work. More than 60 her students became professional painters and sculptors.
Vladimir Kashtanov teaches the modelling in the sculpture department. He is professional sculptor, member of Russian Painters' Assosiation, participant of numerous exibitions. Works by his students are remarkable for their deep comprehension of plastic arts, expressiveness and comprehension of material.

Pupils have summer practical work every June. This time they go into the streets of ancient city and paint streets and architectural ensembles, monuments and Volga embankments.

The school participates in numerous exibitions of children's creative work. One can see pupils' works on city and regional shows. Many pupils win prizes from international competitions. Some of pupils continue their education in artistic colleges and institutes.
